It doesn’t matter if you’re a size 6, 16 or 26, we all have parts of our bodies that we feel a little insecure about. And while we all try to be as body-positive as possible, our outfits can often boost our confidence or have the complete opposite effect. For me, that area is my stomach, which is why my wardrobe heavily relies on tummy-flattering dresses.

　　Now, let’s be clear - we all have stomachs, and there’s no such thing as a ‘perfect size’.

　　However, as someone who often suffers from the dreaded bloat, my outfit can often be the difference between feeling great or having to explain to someone that infact, I am not pregnant. So over my years of working as a stylist, I’ve learnt a trick or two about what types of dresses will flatter your figure and make you feel great no matter what.

　　When it comes to shopping for a confidence boosting frock, there are three key things to consider:

　　1 – The waistline: your dress’ waistband (if there is one) should fit across the smallest part of your waist rather than above or underneath.

　　2 – The fit: no matter what size you are, your tummy flattering dress should have a little extra wiggle room. Not too much, just a centimetre or two, as this will result in the most flattering fit.

　　3 – The fabric: some textures are more flattering than others. So when it comes to bloat-friendly dresses, try sticking to stretchy fabrics like jersey or structured materials like cotton or crepe rather than slinky satin.

　　What is the best type of dress to wear if you have a tummy? While your body shape or insecurities shouldn’t dictate what you’re adding to your shopping cart, there are a few types of dresses that will boost your confidence more than others.

　　For the most flattering fit, try opting for a wrap dress or a fit and flare dress which will nip you in at the waist, creating the illusion of an hourglass figure.

　　Contrary to belief, fitted dresses can also be extremely flattering. Thick, structured fabrics will be your best friend when wearing a bodycon dress.
